Why Is Rainwater Harvesting So Important?

Mains water is a precious resource and getting ever more so due to increases in demand from our growing population. Changes in rainfall patterns in the UK have seen both drought conditions and flooding accruing on a regular basis and it makes sense to collect and store in times of rain to allow us to help make the most of this natural resource and also save some money in the process. Rainwater harvesting can provide around 50 per cent of a family's water needs and has the added benefit of reducing our impact on the environment.

It is highly likely that there will come a point where mains water supply will no longer be able to meet the needs of our growing population. This almost inevitable situation will have an environmental and financial impact on the infrastructure used by the water companies, which will be passed on to their customers. This is why more and more people are capturing their own rainwater – to make sure they have enough for their needs at a price they can afford and at the same time minimise their impact on the environment.

How Can Flow Mech Environmental Help?

We have developed two ranges of rain water harvesting plants.

Our "Hippo" range has been developed for the builders merchant market and is a domestic and small industrial system which is a very simple, easy to install, set up and maintain which comprises a below ground tank to collect and store the rain water. Mounted in the tank is an easily accessible filter and a submersible pump which is controlled by a flow and pressure sensor.

Our Eco-Rain systems offer a more bespoke system which can be tailored to suite the clients individual requirements and can have such items as ultra violet filters, mains water top up, pressure booster pumps etc.
